Yutaka Katoh, Made in Japan, 2006
Yutaka is a renowned Japanese matchbox label designer and collector. After being introduced to him in Japan in 2006, he gave us an amazing insight to the history of art and design of Japanese matchbox labels. Yutaka was the first person we invited from Japan to collaborate with us. He has created work for the Match Box Friendship Wall and Match Box Gallery. Made in Japan is a collage of his signature designs (far left), historical labels he has re-introduced (middle) and those created for commercial purposes (right).
About Yutaka's signature design - Yutaka goes by the name Lefty Rex - he is left handed and is the king of matchbox label design in Japan. (Rex means 'king' in latin)
