Adam has created work for the Match Box Gallery friendship Wall and a Solo Match Box Gallery. He has taken part in various Match Box events including our Arts Alive event for Contempo members of the Art Gallery of New South Wales at Chalk Horse, and our Redfern/Alexandria ARI walking tour where he kindly welcomed us into his Redfern studio.
Friendship Work
Statement: One often hears the term 'crap' used to describe a contemporary artwork, most often either a work shown by a novice visual artist, or, a decidedly 'left' purchase made by the Art Gallery of NSW. Viewers may also be heard to utter..."my kid could paint better than that!" Therefore, I have produced an image / artwork that is undeniably 'crap'. This image is a prelude to a series of large format prints, to be produced later in the year.

Cultural Two- up: Synthetic polymer on canvas board,
Triptych 3 x 15 x 20cm
Statement: Picture this! I walk out front of my studio on Redfern Street, Sydney, and a regular Koori ‘streetie’ requests of me a dollar. Always happy to oblige, I offer. I’m en- route to the Australia Post branch, directly opposite. Waiting in line, I notice the ‘limited edition collectable Indigenous Australia coins’ (on special).
Intrigued, I ask if I may take a closer look. Designed by a Yamatji / Nyoongar artist with an Italian surname… from Perth. ‘Tastefully’ designed complete with Aboriginal motif animals, one may add these to their collection for a mere $89.95 each. (Legal tender- $AUD1.00).
And so, in an age when urban Indigenous art has struggled immensely to earn it’s credibility and respect, we see a collaborative that defies logic. With the average blackfulla on the breadline, surviving amidst an economy conspired by the wealthy white elite. The irony existent in this collaborative is woeful.
