The Journey Texts for my Match Box Solo Gallery were created to explore the space and time I spent commuting in Sydney. I wanted to include my art making in this sometimes mundane time, rather than considering it as a period ‘in-between’ daily rituals.
While I was seated, I carved humorous short statements or interpretations of Australian fauna into the tickets creating pop-up artworks. The statements are my responses, as well as overheard snippets of conversations of commuters while in transit.
I am interested in Marc Auge’s theory of public space and notions of memory. From this concept, I created works to re-interpret these spaces and how we occupy them over time.
