Untitled, human hair, cotton, 2006
work for Friendship Wall and Match Box Gallery
This work reflects my interest in the dynamics between the individual and the groups in which they find themselves. The different coloured hair comes from different individuals. Using weaving suggests that these individuals are bound inexorably together as we are in society.
This work is from a series based on Japanese textile patterns, but the amount of hair usually dictates the size and pattern of the woven pieces. The many connotations of hair also enable viewers to bring out a variety of meanings from these works, which may differ from those I intend.
Everything ends series, chopsticks, 2008
Work for Solo Match Box Gallery
"These works are offshoots of an existing series of work, especially made for the People to People, Place to Place project. Everything Ends explore the idea of decay and destruction, and are meant to suggest aged architectural features.
