Anna Kristensen
Utilising the unique position that landscape painting as a genre has sustained in this country, my practice investigates the construction and presentation of Australian myths and identity.
Recent bodies of work were painted from tourist postcards, translating the mechanics of past print technologies and evoking personal and collective memories of a past era. Whether observing from a lookout or collecting a souvenir, the Tourist’s activities reflect desires similar to those of the Explorer and the Artist: to survey, conquer or capture.
