Newtown/St Peters Tour
28 March
Tour to celebrate the launch of our Sydney ARI Guide.
Links/Details of places visited on the following tour are at the bottom of this page
Our first stop was where the local talent present their work for sale in front of the Martin Luther King Mural on King Street every weekend,
OH REALLY GALLERY
Next stop was OH REALLY Gallery, a platform for emerging street artists. It represents the pulsing life of street art in Sydney and is run by the boys behind Oh Really magazine, a publication focussed on street art/illustrations/photography and poetry. Generally, one week every month the gallery presents a solo exhibition, and for the rest of the time the gallery exhibits and sells the latest work of a diverse range of street artists. Additionally, every month, a different artist creates a work for the Gallery's back wall. (the March wall featured above was created by Ears.)
Across the road is ARI, Little Fish Gallery. After hearing an introduction to this DIY gallery, exhibiting artist Rodney Love gave an insight to his practice and the two series of works he was exhibiting Violence, Abjection and Ecstasy and Everything Ends
We are very familiar with Rodney's work - see what Rodney has created for our Match Box Gallery at here.
MAY LANE
A stroll through the streets behind St Peters Train Station was next, particularly May Lane, the location of the May Lane Art Project, an outdoor gallery created by Tugi Balog, who runs his business, Graphic Art Mount behind the gallery wall. This amazing project has been running since 2005.
TORTUGA STUDIOS
Next stop was the new Tortuga Studios - We were given a tour through their ARI Gallery, and numerous diverse artist studios which form this warehouse artspace.
AT THE VANISHING POINT - CONTEMPORARY ART (ATVP)
Our last stop was At the Vanishing Point - Contemporary Art where Andrew introduced us to the space and Arts Program.
MATCH BOX TALK & LAUNCH OF SYDNEY ARI ART MAP & GUIDE
At ATVP we were exhibiting People to People, Place to Place:The Journey So Far, our ongoing project which inspired us to create this Sydney ARI Guide and Map. We introduce the project's Friendship Wall and Solo Match Box Galleries. This was followed by the official launch of the Sydney ARI Map.
